Broadstone win the Dorset Funeral Plan Premier League for the 2nd time.

Broadstone Cricket Club completed the season with a victory over Martinstown at the Delph on Saturday winning the Dorset Premier League.

Steve Trembath the Broadstone captain said“It was a great feeling to get over the final hurdle and win the league exceeding all expectations. We have a great set of players here who give 100% every game and no matter what situation we have found ourselves in within matches, the team spirit has remained high and got the Badgers over line. We have a great set up at the club and the team is surrounded by club members that always go the extra mile to support us throughout the year.

Luke Carter has shown his class this year and rightly so has ended up the leading run scorer in the league. He has the ability to take games away from teams single handedly and we have been over-reliant on his runs in the past. It's great to see this year that others around him have taken on the responsibility of scoring runs for the team and allowed him to play his natural game, yesterday being the classic example with James Park stepping up to hit an unbeaten century when others had failed.

With the ball it's great to have so many options as a captain. Mike Holm has remained the go to man, as he has been for many seasons now, using all his experience to churn out wicket after wicket. Matt Spraggs remains the Wiley veteran of the team and when he's not too busy throwing his hat in anger at himself, has taken some key wickets for us, as has Jono Colegate who can push it through quicker than anyone else in the league on his day.

Overall I couldn't be happier with how the team have performed for me this year, and the spirit within the group of players here is really something to be proud of. I have to give a special mention to the ground staff with the pitches at the Delph this year the best they have ever been, we really appreciate how much hard work takes place each week to get them to a high standard”

Paul Triniman the Club President said “The senior league title has been crafted from a great team spirit this year which has importantly filtered down through the teams! Playing cricket is about enjoying yourself – that’s critical to remember.

Mark Munday the Chairman reflected after the game. “ Its a great day for the Club winning the Premier League and the 2nd team surviving in the 2nd tier of the Dorset Funeral Plan League. Some Clubs in the East of the County have tried to reach the Southern league but Broadstone have always enjoyed playing in the Dorset League and support the aims of the League committee trying to achieve higher standards within Dorset and to gain ECB Premier status. Some of the Cricket this year has been of a high standard with tough games against Poole, Swanage, Dorchester, Wimborne ,Shroton and Sherborne.
We have enjoyed visiting the new Clubs to the Premier with some fantastic grounds. The Club wants to thanks all its opponents who have all played in the right way. Broadstone has an ethos of playing to win but more importantly enjoying the game and the Company of your team mates and your opponents and that will never change”
