Poole drops Broadstone!
On a glorious summers day the Division 1 league season began for us 2nd team badgers at Poole Park. An unusual Poole Park…no goose droppings and a pitch with pace and carry…on a hot afternoon with a big outfield skipper Smith made the obvious decision to bowl first! Holm and Bishop opened for BCC to prove the skipper correct…Holm finding the openers edge only for R Poole to drop an absolute sitter at slip! “That’s going to cost us” said Poole “nah, he won’t get any runs” said Gareth…there followed 30 chance less overs before both openers departed with 157 on the board. Alan H bowled well on debut with out luck…cries of “well bowled Phil Jack” and “unlucky Bruce Willis” might have been a tad confusing for the debutant. We finally restricted Poole to 257 off 45 long overs.
Weir 2-70
Bishop 0-19 (7)
The chase began well with Poole and Whittle taking advantage of some wayward bowling from the very young pace attack. Unfortunately the wicket of Whittle sparked a mini collapse before the ship was steadied by Wallis (Jnr and senior). With both players enjoying their time in the middle away from PlayStations, food and beer it felt more like family bonding time than Div 1 cricket. A brave re-building of the innings gave Broadstone hope but alas…was not to be…early sparks for the future showed in the classy innings of Harry and a reminder of better years poured through the souls of the Broadstone team as they watch Rob W bludgeon bowlers who were still twice his age!
Special mention to TJ who was triggered after hitting the cover off it and then experienced Arsenal lose to Bournemouth whilst surrounded by AFCB and Spurs fans!
7 bonus points accrued and a confidence that this team will be competitive after its promotion last year..:onwards…slip catching practice homework for some!
